برعاية دولة رئيس مجلس الوزراء السيد سعد الحريري، وبالتعاون مع بلدية بيروت، يُفتَتَح “مهرجان بيروت للصورة” الذي تقيمه “جمعية مهرجان الصورة – ذاكرة”، نهار الأربعاء في ٤ أيلول/ سبتمبر ٢٠١٩ الساعة السادسة مساء، بمعرض “لبنان ١٩١٩” في باحة الحمَامات الرومانية في وسط بيروت بالتزامن مع معرض “بيروت” للمصور اللبناني نبيل إسماعيل في أسواق بيروت مقابل مبنى “الأوريان لوجور”.
وفي اليوم التالي، الخميس ٥ أيلول/ سبتمبر ٢٠١٩، الساعة الرابعة عصراً، يفتتح معالي وزير الثقافة الدكتور محمد داوود المعرض العام للمهرجان في المكتبة الوطنية، الصنائع. وعند الساعة السادسة مساءً يفتتح معالي وزير الإعلام السيد جمال جرّاح معرض الصورة الصحفية في قاعة ليلى الصلح حمادة، الحمرا.
ونهار السبت في ٧ أيلول/ سبتمبر ٢٠١٩، الساعة الخامسة عصراً، يفتتح رئيس بلدية بيروت المهندس جمال عيتاني معرض “صيادو رأس بيروت” للمصوراللبناني مروان نعماني على كورنيش عين المريسة بين ساحة جمال عبدالناصر ومرفأ جل البحر.
ونهار الأثنين في ٩ أيلول/ سبتمبر ٢٠١٩، الساعة السادسة مساءً، يفتتح سعادة محافظ بيروت القاضي زياد شبيب في بيت بيروت (السوديكو)، معرضاً تكريمياً للمصورتين الرائدتين: الفلسطينية الراحلة كريمة عبود، لمناسبة مئة سنة على إبداعها، والتي يمكن أن تكون أول امرأة عربية تحترف التصوير الفوتوغرافي، وماري الخازن أول مصورة امرأة لبنانية. بالإضافة إلى مجموعات أخرى لأديب شعبان وعلي بن ثالث عن الصحراء والماء، ومعرض لأيمن لطفي تحت عنوان “بورتريه مفاهيمي”.
على أن تتوالى تواريخ افتتاح المعارض الأخرى التي يتضمنها المهرجان في أكثر من منطقة من بيروت، بالإضافة إلى مناطق لبنانية أخرى مثل طرابلس وصيدا وبعلبك وصور وحمّانا، وتتوزع المعارض على ٢٢ موقعاً بين صالات عرض وأمكنة عامة في الهواء الطلق.
تعكس المعارض المقامة التنوع في عالم الصورة الفوتوغرافية اليوم، حيث تتنوع معارض المهرجان بين ما هو تكريم لشخصيات ساهمت في تأسيس مهنة التصوير الفوتوغرافي في العالم العربي ومعارض صور من حول العالم تظهر الغنى الحضاري والثقافي، ومن معارض التصوير الصحفي والوثائقي، الى معارض التصوير المفاهيمي، ومعارض تعالج قضايا البيئة والإنسان بمقاربات فنية.
وكان لـ”جمعية مهرجان الصورة – ذاكرة” شرف أن تطلق هذا المهرجان كتجربة رائدة في العالم العربي، بالتعاون مع “اتحاد المصورين العرب” و”دار المصور” في بيروت، ومشاركة ١٢٢ مصورًا فوتوغرافيًّا من ٢٥ دولة عربية وأجنبية.
إن “مهرجان بيروت للصورة” هو الأول من نوعه في تاريخ لبنان، يهدف إلى تعزيز ثقافة الصورة، وإبراز مواهب المصورين الكبار والشباب، وتأمين مساحة للتفاعل الثقافي والحضاري والإعلامي.
أردنا بهذا المهرجان تأكيد الدور الذي كانت تلعبه بيروت، واستعادة موقعها كملتقى للثقافة العربية وثقافات العالم، بكل تنوّعها واختلافها. كما أردنا تأكيد دور الصورة في بناء المجتمع وتطوره وتغييره والتأثير فيه، في عصر الإنترنت وإعلام الوسائط الاجتماعية الذي يفرض على كل مواطن أن يكون مراسلًا صحفيًّا.
هي إذًا النسخة الأولى من مهرجان بيروت للصورة -٢٠١٩، تقدم لها ٦٧٨ مصورًا ومصورة، من ٣٦ جنسية، يقيمون في ٤١ دولة من العالم، بطلباتهم للمشاركة في المهرجان، وأرسلوا ٣٨٨٤ صورة بين إفرادية وضمن قصص مصورة، وقد اختارت لجنة مختصة من بينها ٦٠٠ صورة.
لقد كان الإقبال على هذا المهرجان هذا العام أكبر من تصورنا، وكلنا أمل في أن يستمر سنويًا، ونطلق من الآن نسخة عام ٢٠٢٠ تحت عنوان “الذاكرة” داعين المصورين والمصورات لتقديم أعمالهم تحت هذا المعنى الواسع لمفهوم الذاكرة الثقافية الفردية والجماعية، كمنطلقٍ لفضاءٍ إنساني رحب مبني على قبول الآخر في إطار احترام التنوع.

Under the patronage of the President of the Cabinet of Ministers, His Excellency Mr. Saad Hariri and in collaboration with the Municipality of Beirut, Zakira – The Image Festival Association launches the inaugural Beirut Image Festival on Wednesday September 4th ,2019 at 6 pm with two outdoor exhibitions: “Lebanon 1919” at the Roman Baths in Downtown Beirut and “Beirut” by the Lebanese photographer Nabil Ismail at Beirut Souks, facing L’Orient Le Jour building.
On Thursday September 5th 2019 at 4 pm, His Excellency Dr. Mohammad Daoud, Minister of Culture, will inaugurate the Beirut Image Festival general exhibition at the National Library in Sanayeh. And at 6 pm, His Excellency Mr. Jamal Jarrah, Minister of Information, will inaugurate the photojournalism exhibition in the Leila Solh Hamadeh Hall, Hamra.
On Saturday, September 7th, 2019 at 5 pm, the Mayor of Beirut, Mr. Jamal Itani will inaugurate the exhibition of the Lebanese photographer Marwan Naamani, “The Fishermen of Ras Beirut”, on the Ain el-Mreisse corniche between Jamal Abdulnasser Square and the Jall el Baher Port.
On Monday, September 9th, 2019 at 6 pm, His Excellency the Governor of Beirut Judge Ziad Chebib will inaugurate at Beit Beirut (Sodeco) an exhibition honoring two pioneering Arab female photographers: Karima Abboud, possibly the first Arab female professional photographer from Palestine, and Mary el-Khazen, the first Lebanese female photographer. Two other simultaneous exhibitions will be showcasing the works of Adib Shaaban and Ali Bin Thaleth on the themes of desert and water, as well as the exhibition “Conceptual Portraits” showcasing the works of Ayman Loutfi.
A series of other exhibitions will follow in 22 various exhibition halls and public open-air spaces in several areas of Beirut as well as in other regions of Lebanon including Tripoli, Saida, Baalbeck, Tyr, and Hammana.
The various exhibitions will reflect the diversity found in the world of photography today, varying from honoring pioneers who have contributed to the establishment of professional Arab photography, to world photos highlighting our rich cultural diversity, to photojournalism and documentary photography, to conceptual works, to thematic exhibitions tackling issues of humanity and the environment through art.
Zakira – The Image Festival Association in collaboration with The Federation of Arab Photographers and Dar al-Mussawir (Lebanon) are honored to be launching this inaugural edition of the Beirut Image Festival as the first festival of its kind in the Arab world, bringing together 122 photographers from across 25 countries.
Beirut Image Festival aims to underpin the culture of the photograph and to showcase the talents of both established and new photographers, providing a space for cultural dialogue and interaction.
The Festival is an affirmation and reclamation of the historical role of Beirut as the meeting point of Arab and international culture in all its differences and diversity. It is an affirmation of the role of the photograph in the building and development of society and in effecting change, especially in the era of the internet and social media where every citizen is a photojournalist.
In this first edition of the Beirut Image Festival (2019) we were inundated with 3,884 submissions from 678 photographer of 36 different nationalities across 41 countries. Submissions varied from single photographs to photo essays. 600 photographs were selected for participation by the specialized selection committee.
The number of submissions for this year’s Festival by far exceeded all expectations, and so we have begun planning for next year’s Festival (2020) which will be held under the theme: “Memory”. We call on photographers of all ages and experiences to submit their entries under the broad themes of cultural, individual, and collective memory, as a welcoming space established on the principles of acceptance of the other and respect for diversity.
